Happy 10th Anniversary To Solemen Indonesia

Happy 10th Anniversary To Solemen Indonesia

In the blink of an eye, we are ten years old. At least that’s how it seems when the teams are busy every day caring for all of our Solebuddies and their families.

Like many, the pandemic brought about great change for us and tremendous hardship as tourism stopped and so did much of our fundraising via the lovely visitors to Bali. We want to take this opportunity to say a huge and heart-felt thank you to everyone who supported us during the pandemic and also for the last 10 years. In particular, we want to thank Finns Beach Club for their tremendous and ongoing support – we would be in a very different position if it wasn’t for your generosity and commitment. Three cheers for Finns everyone!

To celebrate our 10 years of changing lives through our outreach program in Bali, we are going back to the beginning and walking across Bali to raise money for all of our Solebuddies. And you can join us either in person or in spirit! The walk starts at Bali Dynasty Resort and finishes with a party at Finns Rec Club and just for fun, we are dressing up Halloween-style so bring your camera for all those fabulous selfies along the way and make sure to tag Solemen!

You can either join us on the walk or donate to sponsor the teams that are walking – both contributions allow us to continue providing food and nutrition, emotional support and medical care to all of our beautiful Solebuddies and their families. It’s not just the patient we care for, their families also need our TLC to help them through the hard times.

And now as it’s been a while, here’s a word from Robert and Sarah.

“It has been a very hard few months but with dogged determination, we continue to help the most in need. We survived because of our generous sponsors and are so very grateful.” – Sarah Chapman

“We are so proud of our passionate and seemingly tireless team and deeply grateful to all our loyal supporters, most especially Finns Beach Club and guests at our hotel partners – without whom we could never have achieved so much over the last 10 years.” – Robert Epstone

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE OUTREACH TEAM

On a recent outreach day, a team of supporters joined us on a long day driving from the centre up into the mountains of Karangasem. We visited 9 patients and their families that day, all suffering various common health conditions on top of diagnoses ranging from autism to schizophrenia. Our youngest patient that day was a 10-year-old while our eldest was in her 80’s – although it’s her son we treat for schizophrenia, she needs a check up also.

These people are isolated from proper medical care due to location and financial situation. We ensure they are treated with respect and dignity, while providing the necessary medical care and emotional support that the patients and their families need. Caring for someone full-time is a hard task made even harder when financial circumstances are preventing the right care, and that’s where we step in.

This is also where you step in!

For us to continue the Outreach program, we need your help to cover expenses like medication, food parcels, additional help such as a mattress to sleep on instead of the hard ground, and education support to help break the cycle of poverty and ill-health.

If you can help with donated items or donations direct to the Solebuddies account, please contact us here: https://solefamily.org/Donate/

Here are some photos from that day with the Outreach team, they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

DID YOU KNOW…?

We have 10 bedrooms at the recovery centre, each of them equipped to be home short-term or long-term for our Solebuddies. They offer comfort and respite to those who travel great distances for treatment, and a place of support for patients and their families. The centre has a small kitchen that provides up to 90 meals every day, sometimes more if the centre is full, and we have a TV area, play area for the kids and small garden and vegetable patch.

We have been fortunate to have 4 bedrooms sponsored by Georges Forest, Wendy and Jan, Passage Foods, and Maureen and Nick Iustini. This sponsorship is vital for the centre to continue operation and in return, we will be updating our sponsors regularly with news of all Solebuddies who stay in their sponsored bedrooms.

If you would like to contribute to the comfort and care of our Solebuddies by sponsoring a room, please get in touch at [email protected]

And so, we continue our work, changing lives in Bali.
Stay safe everyone
