August 2021 Newsletter

Ever thought, “Damn, I wish I were one of those Superheroes, so I could save the world and stop this pandemic. Right now!”

Well, the fact that you are reading this email proves that you are already one of Solemen’s Superheroes and the world keeps spinning thanks to people like you.

However, nobody’s got time to read long, sad emails from a charity organisation, let’s be honest.

That’s why starting from today our monthly newsletters will be more about hope and inspiration. We want to tell the Stories That Matter.

(Warning: this newsletter contains some magical art content that might prompt you to start creating your own art. Sorry not sorry.)

Welcome to the Team!

First of all, we would like to welcome Raka, the new housekeeper of Solemen’s Center to our team! Raka is from Bandung, she is a tiny (150cm tall), but very powerful addition to the team, always positive, very well-organised and responsible human-being.

Genius at work despite all odds

Have you ever seen the art of one of our Solebuddies Wayan Dik?

Wayan has an incurable skin condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), which makes his skin very fragile, like butterfly wings, but it doesn’t stop him from creating art masterpieces deserved to be displayed in the best galleries in the world. We think Wayan should have his own art exhibition, do you agree?

Let us know if you would like to support Wayan by buying a piece of his art or sponsoring art supplies.

Solemen’s Baby almost born at work.

Our team-members Tina and Kadek just got their new baby boy, Made. Tina was working until 5 pm at Solemen’s Center and the baby was born at 11 pm. Sarah Chapman, our Head of Outreach, joked that day that she did not want to be catching the baby and tried to sent Tina home, but she would not even sit down for a minute. This is how dedicated the team is!

Happy Birthday, little Made!

Repaying our debt of kindness

Pak Mamat, who worked at the Sunset Vet where we had our first office, has just had his major abdominal surgery. We’ve got the message that he was in hospital, so we immediately sent food and basic necessities to assist his family while he was in in-patient care.

After his discharge we sent him food parcels and milk supplements to make sure his recovery is as smooth as possible.

We’ve been supporting him through the outpatient appointments.

Get well soon, Pak Mamat!

Oxygen needed for baby Aditya

Baby Aditya has been unwell since he was born with several very severe health issues. He has spent long periods of time in Sanglah hospital and requires oxygen at home.

We are looking for a permanent sponsor for him to provide oxygen and all the basic necessities.

The monthly budget to support baby Aditya is IDR 2,400,000 for the oxygen, nappies and food supply for him and his family.

Let us know if you would like to support baby Aditya and his family.

Birthday Wish

Our Solebuddy Komang Agus, 13, has bone cancer. His birthday wish is to receive a remote control car which would help distract him from his illness and ongoing unpleasant treatment

If you want to support Komang’s birthday wish – connect with us by replying to this email.

Donors of the month:

Kate and Antonio Villano

Kate and Antonio Villano, “VOGUE DUO” from Adelaide, Australia organised a charity concert last month and raised 1,700 AUD. This money will be used to buy milk for our Solebuddies.

New Initiative

Impact Mastermind

Last month Solemen started its new initiative called “Impact Mastermind”.

Impact Masterminds are private group “brainstorm” events for businesses to help founders find creative and out-of-the-box solutions for their business and personal challenges in a very short period of time and connect with like-minded purpose-driven individuals.

We host our Impact Masterminds every month in different locations here in Bali and can host them for organisations and teams.

Let us know if you want to learn more and join our waitlist to participate in the next Impact Masterminds. Just reply to this email.

Our Captain is on a forced “Vacay”

in Valencia, Spain.

And last but not the least, we would like to give a big shout out to our Founder (affectionately known as “Captain”), Robert Epstone, who had to go to Spain a week ago for an emergency medical checkup. He is Solemen’s greatest Superhero and our team prays for his safe return back to Bali very soon. We miss you, Captain!
